OLYMPIC RUN 2021
More than 71,000 competitors lined up on September 8th across the Czech Republic at the T-Mobile Olympic Run starting line. The largest running event was joined already in the morning hours by pupils at 320 schools. At exactly 6 PM, thanks to a live start broadcast on Radiožurnál, runners set off at 89 locations across the country.
The Prague race in the Hvězda game reserve was started by actor Václav Neužil, following in the footsteps of the legendary runner Emil Zátopek, who tried out the role of starter at the very first Olympic Run in 1987 at Strahov. “It’s my debut starting a race, but it’s a wonderful feeling to be able to follow in Emil Zátopek’s footsteps after 35 years,” said Neužil, who brilliantly portrayed Zátopek in the film of the same name.
“Here at Hvězda I spent five years running while preparing for the filming of the movie Zátopek. Running became almost a daily staple for me. Now it’s eased off a bit since filming. I go for a run only when I feel like it,” Neužil revealed.
The actor had the honour of handing over Prim watches before the start to competitor Zbyněk Fojtík, who has completed all 35 editions. “I remember I was in the army back then and we went to Prague for the race. I even have a photo with Mr. Zátopek from 1987,” said the enthusiastic runner. “Now I have no big goals, but I still really enjoy running.”
Positive energy
The race took place on September 8th, symbolically one month after the end of the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Once again we could celebrate the achievements of all our Olympians. Some of them were personally present at races across the Czech Republic — for example gold-medal shooter Jiří Lipták, gymnast Aneta Holasová, wrestler Artur Omarov, and judoka David Klammer.
“It was really lovely. Above all, I liked the enthusiasm of the young children for running. Together with other Olympians I was handing out commemorative medals to runners at the finish line, and the competitors radiated amazing energy — they were so happy,” said athlete Kristiina Mäki, who made it all the way to the Olympic final of the 1500 metres in Tokyo. This year’s race ambassadors were tennis player Lucie Šafářová, skateboarder Maxim Habanec, and wrestler Adéla Hanzlíčková.
T-Mobile has been the general partner of the Olympic Run for seven years. “We were enthusiastic about this project from the very beginning, because it fits perfectly into our sponsorship strategy. Moreover, you experience this great run offline, and then you share those running experiences online,” said Ladislav Báča, marketing director of T-Mobile.
The T-Mobile Olympic Run routes are generally 5 to 10 kilometres long, making it accessible to hobby runners so that absolutely everyone can take part. This year’s motto is to run it “olympically” — that is, with joy of movement, with courage, to the fullest, and fairly. In short, the way every athlete should approach sport.
In support of children
A portion of every adult entry fee goes towards supporting children’s sport through the Czech Olympic Foundation. This year managed to raise the highest amount ever — nearly 530,000 Czech crowns, with 100,000 crowns donated by the ČEZ Foundation.
The main goal of the project is to celebrate Olympic values linked to the founding of the International Olympic Committee, and it traditionally takes place in June on Olympic Day. The September date is an exception due to the global pandemic. “This year’s edition was a success again. We look forward to meeting at the start next year in the traditional June slot,” said Daniela Marková, project manager of the T-Mobile Olympic Run.

THE PRIM SPORT CZECH TEAM COLLECTION FOR ATHLETES IS FINALLY UNVEILED! LIMITED EDITION AND PRE-SALE – COMING SOON!
Sport climber and medal hopeful Adam Ondra, canoe slalom paddler and defending bronze medallist from Rio Jiří Prskavec, and fellow canoe slalom paddler Kateřina Minařík Kudějová are the first athletes to have the complete Olympic Collection Tokyo 2020 at home. They picked up the clothing set for the postponed Games in Tokyo at the Chuchle Arena complex in Prague and praised above all its functionality and distinctiveness.
The main motif of the Olympic collection for athletes is the inscription “Czech Republic” with its Japanese equivalent. The unifying graphic element of the collection is a gymnastics figure in honour of successful Olympic medallists including Věra Čáslavská.
Each athlete will also receive a special edition of Prim watches — PRIM Sport 64 Tokyo Czech Team — with their own name engraved. Very soon the new collection PRIM Sport 64 Tokyo Czech Team will also be available for fans!
